What’s the deal with oral sex?
There are many myths out there about oral sex, so let’s set the record straight.
You can get STDs from oral sex.
This includes herpes, syphilis, HPV, chlamydia, and gonorrhea. If you aren’t using condoms for oral sex, be sure to get tested regularly.
The chances of getting HIV from oral sex are exceedingly low.
However, cuts or sores in your mouth, gum disease, or recent dental work could make getting HIV during oral sex more likely.
Oral sex is more than just foreplay.
While some of us consider oral sex to be the opening act, it can also be the main attraction. In fact, many men who have sex with men aren’t down with anal sex or simply prefer oral. Plus, for people living with HIV or certain STDs, oral sex can be the safer alternative to anal sex.
